Typically, when you arrive, you will be searched by a Sheriff. This is no different than being screened through security at the airport and ensures safety in the courthouse.

You will be asked to:

  • remove your shoes
  • empty your pockets
  • walk through a screening device
  • be patted down by a Sheriff of the same gender
  • remove your hats, hoodies and sunglasses (unless medically required)
  • backpacks and bags will be searched

Outside the Courtroom:

  • Chewing gum is allowed
  • Food and drink are allowed
  • Keep conversations low not to disturb the court proceedings happening
  • Children must be kept quiet, no yelling or shouting
  • Children must be in the care of a parent/guardian at all times

Inside the Courtroom:

  • No chewing gum
  • No food
  • No coffee or other drinks, aside from water in a resealable container
  • No babies, toddlers or young children
  • Technology (iPads, video recording devices, audio recorders, laptops, etc.) must be turned off and always stowed
  • No weapons of any kind (knives, toys/lighters)
  • No alcohol or drugs
  • If you are watching, remain quietly in your seat.
  • As a viewer, you may not speak to the judge, anyone before the court or in the witness box
  • Inhalers and medications are allowed (prescribed by a doctor)
