Typically, when you arrive, you will be searched by a Sheriff. This is no different than being screened through security at the airport and ensures safety in the courthouse.
You will be asked to:
- remove your shoes
- empty your pockets
- walk through a screening device
- be patted down by a Sheriff of the same gender
- remove your hats, hoodies and sunglasses (unless medically required)
- backpacks and bags will be searched
Outside the Courtroom:
- Chewing gum is allowed
- Food and drink are allowed
- Keep conversations low not to disturb the court proceedings happening
- Children must be kept quiet, no yelling or shouting
- Children must be in the care of a parent/guardian at all times
Inside the Courtroom:
- No chewing gum
- No food
- No coffee or other drinks, aside from water in a resealable container
- No babies, toddlers or young children
- Technology (iPads, video recording devices, audio recorders, laptops, etc.) must be turned off and always stowed
- No weapons of any kind (knives, toys/lighters)
- No alcohol or drugs
- If you are watching, remain quietly in your seat.
- As a viewer, you may not speak to the judge, anyone before the court or in the witness box
- Inhalers and medications are allowed (prescribed by a doctor)
